Buku ini teridiri dari beberapa tema yang akan dibahas, pada bab awal akan ada pembahasan terkait sejarah perkembangan psikologi kognitif hingga perkembangan teknologi dalam mengkaji proses-proses koginitif serta mengetahui aktivitas otak yang muncul pada keadaan tertentu. Selain itu terdapat juga pembahasan mengenai struktur bagian otak yang memiliki
peran-peran penting dalam proses-proses kognitif, khususnya mengenai persepsi. Kemudian tema di bab selanjutnya, kita akan memasuki bahasan mengenai berbagai jenis atensi, begitu pun kaitan atensi dan persepsi. Area-area otak yang berkaitan dengan pemrosesan informasi visual juga akan dibahas di bab ini.
Selain itu, paparan mengenai visual imagery dijabarkan di bab selanjutnya Sebagai hasil dari warisan primata, sebagian besar otak kita memproses informasi visual. Kita menggunakan struktur otak ini sebanyak yang kita bisa, bahkan tanpa adanya sinyal visual dari dunia luar, dengan menciptakan gambaran mental di kepala.
Kita akan mengetahui bagaimana suatu memori terbentuk, dipertahankan, dan memudar, proses memasukan informasi tentu sangat berperan penting dalam hal ini. Terdapat berbagai faktor yang mempengaruhi kinerja memori salah satu yang paling penting adalah bagian otak mana yang akan berperan dalam proses tersebut. Maka dalam buku ini akan membahas terkait bagianbagian otak mana yang berpengaruh dalam proses ingatan atau memori dan representasi pengetahuan.
